| | it was good to get eric frank russell's books back into print, and a significant amount of £,£££ to him - i'm only sorry that he died before very many of the methuen p/b editions had come out, so he didn't get the satisfaction of holding them all, and seeing the job we'd done on presenting his work in a style suited to them.
efr was one of the ''big name writers'' of sf in the forties and fifties, into the sixties - but unlike john wyndham, arthur c. clarke and brian aldiss, efr's star had faded quickly after he stopped writing, and far too few readers remembered him...
one of the classics of the campbellian/astounding/analog and e. j. ''ted'' carnellian/new worlds/science fantasy era, though with a liking also for fortean ''we are hidden aliens' property'' and other horror-fantasy underlying themes, that surfaced in some of his writings... | | publisher should be corrected to "cherry tree" (or "cherry tree books").
"bookcat" practice being to go with the imprint, in this case "cherry tree" (or "cherry tree books") rather than the ultimate publishing company, in this case "kemsley newspapers limited" who'd bought the withy hill press that originally launched cherry tree books. (this comment is from another edition of this book) |
