ppint. 8th Nov 2018		the elementals trilogy #1: #1: ''sorcerer's son'' (1979), (this book) #2: "the crystal palace" (1988), q.v. #3: "the city in stone" (completed, unpublished: announced for 2003 but did not appear; publisher meisha merlin folded 2006/7.) ballantine books mmpb del rey series first printings sharing merkin-printed covers and cat#, isbn, cover art by darrell sweet (credited) cover price: $2.50 (canadadian-carcassed copies intended for distribution north of the parallel) cover price: $1.95 (wholly merkin-printed copies for general distribution) 388pp. including titles, indicia etc, end p. advertising refer to indicia to see if carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin-printed. no priority established nor liable to be. both accounted the first edition/printing in indica. there's liable to be a near-identical second wholly merkin-printed, cover priced $1.95 or $2.50 printing, which may be advised as the third or the second printing; but i've no record of this. near-identical also is the 12/1982 fourth printing cat# 29766, isbn 0-345-29766-0, cover price $2.50 so check indicia publishing history for any statement of subsequent elsewise near-identical printing(s) as - evidently - at least four ballantine books mmpb printings exist. copies of at least (one of the two) first printings were distributed in the uk, norn iron & republic of ireland, and prob'ly in western yeurp, by futura publications ltd, bearing uk price printed in black upon a white semi-peelable rectangular sticker with rounded corners, on the back cover . i haven't the paperwork to be certain now, but this was probably priced at 80p net (or thereabouts).
