 A fine and unprecedented photographic display of Southern Pacific's 1000 Series to 2800 Series steam locomotives. Pictures were selected as being the definitive illustration of important designs in various eras, notable exceptions to "standards," examples of design progression or because an excellent picture deserved an oversized presentation. A large format book (17"×11") with crisp black and white photographs with detailed captions packed with statistics. The book also includes three essays -- on SP tenders, locomotive appliances, and boiler jackets. Bound in green cloth with gilt lettering. With maps. 166 pages (with introduction). Scarce.
