and again, thank-you david. there are a few holes in the record of the series yet - mostly in terms of the details of later printings, and in the artists responsible - if that's quite the right word - for some of the worse covers (and actually, some of the good covers, too): but that's the pan books of horror essentially ''done''.

last in the well-established series: i've no reason to suppose the last five sold substantially worse than the previous five in the series, but clarence paget was a commissioning editor, and became the editorial director at pan books / pan macmillan (pan books was wholly-owned by macmillan from its purchase of the shares it did not own in 1987), and these may well not've repaid his time so well as other projects; or he may've retired.
clarence arthur edward paget died in may 1991.
