55th edition of the reference guide for American journalists. The numbering of this edition is counted from the "first modern edition" dated 1977 per copyright page (presumably there were multiple editions some years). However, the first year of publication was in fact 1900 with the publication of "The Associated Press," a booklet intended for AP staff use only; this was expanded into "The Associated Press Rules Regulations and General Orders" in 1909 and "The Associated Press Stylebook" in 1953, which was the first edition sold to the general public. Some editions use the longer title "The Associated Press Stylebook and Briefing on Media Law."

Multiple editors and writers credited (the list changes from edition to edition). Trade paperback, 632 pages.
