ppint. 6th Jun 2019		includes work written by and based on an incomplete novel by hilary bailey. first edition, possibly simultaneous with ace books mmpb, which lloyd currey notes is slightly cut. cover art uncredited, unsigned cover price 5/- (25p), south africa 60c, australia 80c, new zealand 75c so should be re-flagged "international" according to respected moderator's rule number in isbn10 field is the sbn actually borne on this printing's cover 128pp. including titles, indica etc, end pp. advertising near identical second mayflower books printing 1970: refer to indica publishing history for presence/absence of line advising year of reprinting. (1973 reprint bears new cover art, credited in the 1980 granada publishing fifth uk p/b printing as being by bob haberfield, mis-spelled as ''habberfield''. printing history does not acknowledge the 1970 reprint.)



ppint. 15th Oct 2020		cat# is^W was wrong and should^W has been corrected to 06530 (as per cat# at top front cover image); this is one of the five digit system cat#s allocated by ace books / charter communications, inc. from 1969 (roughly); as the usefulness of the original ace books (single letter indicating price)-(up to three digits) cat# system came to an end, according to a rather peculiar system dividing up #00000 through #99999 in blocks of different sizes according to the expected popularity of the initial letter of the published title (excluding 'a', 'an', 'the'); allocating a number hitherto unused and ending in either '0' or '5' (mostly); and then incrementally increasing this cat# by '1' for each subsequent printing (or expected subsequent printing). some spines bear a number-string, 441-(five digit cat#)-(three digits giving the u.s. cover price in cents); this is not ace books/charter communications, inc.'s cat# for the book, nor its sbn, nor its isbn°. it was not & could not be used to order or re-order the books in any sensible manner from any catalog. ° - it gave the wholesalers and retailers a quick & easy means of sorting stock by publisher and price without having to read the titles, publishers or price information off the front covers, and the wholesalers especially a quick & easy means of totting up the total retail price of a box of 120-240 or so mmpb books stacked in a standard mmpb box containing one layer of books with spines upwards (& all aligned the same way), and so of charging the account the correct $ price for the carton's contents after the % discount given. (this is all before barcodes, bar-code scanners, even machine-readable numbers, and way before relatively cheap computers &c., remember...) (this comment is from another edition of this book)
