ppint. 30th Mar 2018		there's no connexion whatsoever between this "ace/stoneshire" (purported publisher/) imprint and any incarnation of ace books, inc. through their absorption into the berkley publishing group and then the penguin group, then random penguin - and now hachette livres. nor is there any connexion with the ace books that was bought by times-mirror los angeles, together with four square books, to form the uk sister company to their new american library, new english library. it is possible that "ace/stoneshire" had no legal existence - and possible that nor did the unqualified "stoneshire" - though both imprints were certainly employed by someone - or something. . .) ppint. 29th Mar 2018		pbs ltd. manchester star books first printing, first uk edition no cat#, no sbn, no isbn - true of all five star books uk paperbacks i've seen. distribution restricted to news agents wholesalers, sfaiaa, and fairly quickly - immediately? - in boxes of mixed remainders (including instant remainders), a minimum four or five copies of each title per box of c. 200-240 books. cover art by paul lehr (frequently re-used on other books since its first appearance on the fawcett crest mmpb of "nine tomorrows" by isaac asimov (11/1969), q.v.) cover price 25p, 6/- east africa, 60¢ south africa, 70¢ australia, 75¢ new zealand so should be re-flagged "international" according to respected moderator's rule - or not so re-flagged, according to equally well-respected moderator's heartfelt plea 160pp including titles, indicia etc. (five star books seems to've been involved in/part of/associated with a "manchester mafia" merry-go-round involving one, some or more of w. howard baker, world distributors (manchester) ltd, pbs ltd, and (more peripherally) amalgamated press and/or books, and the sexton blake library. if anyone out in "bookcatland" has contacts there willing to reminisce, yr hmbl srppnt.'d love to know - and might easily be persuaded to drive down, meet & buy coffees, or a pint or two. . .)
