ppint. 6th Aug 2018		undated third ace books printing/edition (save for © date), apparently re-set, locus magazine #166 gives publication date as 8/1974 cover art unattributed, but given as by dean ellis in the art catalog(ue) for noreascon 4. cover price $1.25 reprinted with cat# 30263 with same cover art by dean ellis, again printing undated, c. 1976-78 cover price $1.50 (0-441-)30264(-5) $1.95 has new cover art by don punchatz, is dated 12/1979, and is given in its indica as the second ace books printing by number-string - which is somewhat in error. . . this error was in turn compounded by another with the next printing, (0-441-)30265(-3) $2.25 with don punchatz's cover art, as this is also dated 12/79, but given as the third printing by number-string. . . (0-441-)30266(-1) $2.50 with don punchatz's cover art, is again given as the third printing, by its indica number-string, should've claimed to be the fourth, and was presumably actually the seventh ace books printing in all. . . in 1985 the title was republished as a berkley mmpb, the berkley publishing group having bought grosset & dunlap, inc., including charter communications inc, and ace books, bringing this particular minor bibliographic saga to an end. ppint. 6th Aug 2018		second ace books edition/printing, no date given save © date, but is late 1969-1972 (my dating, by combination of matching the cover price for the pagination, and the use of the lowercase "a" logo bearing "ace" across the middle horizontal bar of the logo.) new cover art is not by gerald mcconnell: the indica credit is incorrect, a relict from that 1966 first edition. cover art unsigned, uncredited; (seen attributed to davis meltzer, but no evidence given) interior b+w illustration by jack gaughan retained from first edition cover price 75¢ 160pp. including titles, indica etc, end pp. (this comment is from another edition of this book)
