 first mmpb, not first merkin p/b: which was galaxy science fiction novel #21 (1954) digest format p/b

cover art by ed emshwiller (uncredited, art is signed "emsh")

 1963 ? the lancer books, inc. first edition, first printing of the novel is so-dated, which is what this date is; but it does not refer to the printing & publication of this lancer books printing/edition. refer also to the indica of the lancer books, inc. thrid & fourth printings of their mmpb, which give the lie to lancer books' inaccuracy/misleading statement/implicit lie in this printing/edition's indica.

lancer books and other mmpb publishers' cover designs also are often varied between printings, even where cover art is not.

cf. also lancer books cat#s' prefixes, which, like many other mmpb publishers from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, determine cover prices (which prices are also given on the front covers).
