 filmed as "the league of gentlemen" (1960), one of that year's most commercially successful uk films, directed by basil dearden, starring jack hawkins, richard attenborough, bryan forbes, roger livesey, nigel patrick; and still shown from time to time on uk tv in the 21st century. . .

fond memory of the film may well have had "an effect" upon alan moore.
