| ppint. 5th Aug 2020 | near-identical first edition 3/1969 first and late 1970 second ace books mmpb printings both state an ace science fiction special on front cover, and share the same cover art by diane dillon, leo dillon cat# 47800 cover price 95¢ indica publishing history gives only the copyright year of 1969 288pp. including titles, indicia etc, 2 end pp. advertising first printing cover typography is in blue (title and author) and black on white ground above the cover art; the second printing cover bears a large pinked-edge circular flash announcing the novel's award-winning status, title and author in black upon a white ground occupying one third of the front cover above the same cover art which has been blown up and then cropped; the two printings may further be distinguished by reference to the two end pp. advertising: the second printing has the copy on its end two advertising pp. numbered 7 & 18 later ace books mmpb printings' publishing histories omit the late 1970 second printing, so the accounting of printings in their indicia publishing histories undercount by one. | |
