ppint. 30th Sep 2022		harpercollinspublishers h/cvr first printing, first edition or simultaneous first edition 72 (possibly including titles, indica etc; re-check°) large format colour-printed pp. bound with endpapers iirc (again, check°) between covered boards, distributed in full-colour printed paper d-j ° - yr hmbl srppnt. didn't stock these as by the time they started coming out, pretty well all the major publishers had surrendered to amazonwouldbemonopolysupplierofeverything's demands to be given a massive discount even by the standards of those allowed true book wholesalers - which meant they could and did undercut every independent bookshop (and the vast majority of bookshop chains) on new books where- & whenever they wished to with a sale price below that we were charged by the publishers - and *still* make a profit, where we would all have to sell at a loss, to compete. . .



ppint. 30th Sep 2022		jane johnson was a/the fantasy & science fiction editor at george allen & unwin, then unwin hyman, and eventually at harpercollinspublishers as the conglomerisation of publishing proceeded - all in london. she was and is also a writer of fantasy, both in her own right, and sometimes in collaboration with m. john harrison, sometimes being published pseudonymously. it's all too easy for career paths to take good-to-excellent fantasy & sf editors so far into corporate publishers' manglement structures that they lose all direct involvement in the sfnal & fantastic publishing editorial side of things: yr hmbl srppnt. hopes that jane johnson was/is/will be able to avoid this trap, pitfall, snare, device or delusion - let alone any similar such sniggle or contrivance...
