ppint. 20th Sep 2019		this is the first stand-alone publication and the first book publication of the full text of the novel, so first published date is^W was wrong and should^W has been corrected to 1974



ppint. 20th Jun 2018		first book publication of this novel's complete text: restores 173-4 lines accidentally omitted from the 1937 first edition merkin hardcover and the cheap hardcover (both omnibus editions including "the rider", q.v.). so the year of the first full book publication was not 1918, and this date should^W has been deleted.
