unable to sell his magnum opus, "norstrilia", to any publisher, the author accepted editorial advice and split it into two short novels, writing some additional material to render the first, and eventually the second, separately publishable:

#1: "the planet buyer" (1964) (this novel)
#2: "the underpeople" (1968), q.v.

the full-length novel, sans connecting material, was later published in one volume, which some regard as an omnibus:
"norstrilia" (1975), q.v.
