ppint. 31st Aug 2021		fantagraphics books first very large format p/b printing, first edition cover art by skip williamson (signed) cover price $14.95, $19.50 in canada 128+8 page (pp. 83-90) colour section = 136pp. including titles, indica, table-of-contents, introduction by skip williamson, 2 blank end pp. indica publishing history includes full printing number line: 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 back cover blurb is in effect a second (or first) introduction by skip williamson, and includes: ''my first published cartoon was printed in harvey kurtzman's help!, the magazine for tired minds. gloria steinem was the editor who accepted that cartoon. contrite, she went out and invented feminism. toward the end of the summer of 1965 i was kidnapped by transvestite actors and mafia lesbians. the authorities informed my family that i had been murdered, my body dumped into a mineshaft in the colorado rockies. as if things weren't bad enough, that was the same summer that help! magazine folded, the war in vietnam escalated, and everyone started taking lsd. ..'' ''1967 took me to chicago to help jay lynch publish the chicago mirror, a magazine of satire, opinion, and surrealism. unfortunately, the love generation was too drugged to read or get the jokes so jay decided to change the magazine to a comic book. about that time i published the first ''snappy sammy smoot'' strip in the chicago seed and consequently violence erupted at the democratic convention in 1968. with tear gas still hanging in the air, robert crumb, jay lynch and i put together the first eight issues of bijou funnies. after bijou folded, america lost the war in vietnam and everybody started snorting cocaine. during that time i was contributing to such humor magazines as the national lampoon, apple pie, comix book, and playboy.'' ..
