ppint. 16th Jun 2023		jonathan cape first published 1948, h/cvr first printing, first edition thirty bedford square london dedication: to jill and judy nichols with love from their wicked uncle cover (d-j) art, colour frontispiece (d-j art sans overlaid typography) and b+w interior illustrations by richard kennedy (credited) cover (d-j) price 8s 6d. 226 rose top edge-stained pp. including titles and tipped-in colour plate frontispiece, indicia, table-of-contents (three books of v, v & vi titled chapters), etc., four blank end pp., sewn in signatures and bound with b+w decorated endpapers between rose-coloured cloth-covered boards, title, author, jonathan cape logo on spine and line drawing of three fish swimming on front cloth, all in silver distinguish from near-identical second and third printings by reference to the indicia publishing history
