From the back cover:

This is the story of The Teacher to The Beatles told in his own evocative words with the help of his boyhood friend and rock & roll fan turned author Alan Mann. The book was put together by Alan following a period of intense collaboration between the two men, which only came to a conclusion in 2011. Thereafter the book was delayed because of legal complications which thankfully no longer apply.

Certainly the present work is the nearest to an autobiography of Tony Sheridan, singer-songwriter and guitar genius, that is ever likely to appear. A hard musical task-master he is worshipped by his fellow musicians but somehow still manages to remain an elusive and enigmatic figure who is unknown to the wider musical public. There's so much more to the man than his brief time spent with The Beatles in Hamburg as you will read and hopefully the reader will be inspired to seek out other of his recordings from a career that to date has spanned well over 50 years.

Shortly before the publication of this book the sad news arrived that Tony Sheridan had passed away in Germany. This book is therefore dedicated to his memory, and it is hoped will prove a lasting legacy to the man, his music, and the times in which he lived.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual Format

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 November 2015

Firstly I have to declare an interest in as much as I edited this book and it has been kindly dedicated to me by the author.

There is a history to the book which gives it a slightly unusual format. Weighing in at just 116 pages it's densely packed with information. Alan Mann was a personal friend of Sheridan and grew up with him. At first Sheridan agreed to co-operate fully in this project but then, for some unknown reason, decided to withdraw from the project and even started to issue threats about any publication.

As a result Alan had to move away from a full biography and it was decided to produce the book in a question and answer format with Alan's notes and reminiscences. The result is a necessarily fractured narrative. We are very glad to have undertaken the project, however, as Sheridan played a very important (albeit ultimately a minor) part in the history of music and his name needs to be remembered. We hope this book gives and insight into a top class guitarist and his Norwich roots, his move to London and his work in Hamburg.
