ppint. 12th May 2022		panther books p/b first printing, first thus - a first edition of sorts° cover art unsigned, uncredited, shared from ½ ace double cover for same title (1955), q.v. cover price 2'- 144pp. including titles, indicia etc, end p. ° - n.b. this book includes, unannounced on front cover, ''the predators'' (novelette) e. c. tubb (science fantasy #15, 9/1955) i can't see any better way of bookcatting this that matches the cover, and keeps the in-bookcat connexion with the ace mmpb; but it's iffy... no credit is given to the editor who put this book together at or for panther books: it may well have been gordon landsborough, who accepted/took on editor duties at panther books / hamilton & co. (stafford, but transferring or transferred to brompton road, west london) and put into action his idea of improving the quality of (especially the science-) fiction they published, buying-in p/b rights to books published by uk h/cvr and merkin h/cvr & mmpb publishers, rather than following the previous policy of originating generally poor quality fiction; the 1957 date fits, but i know of no solid evidence that might confirm this.
