Peter Jones, editor of [UK music paper] Record Mirror wrote the book under the pseudonym Billy Shepherd, which he used for his articles for Beatles Monthly, which in turn were drawn from various interviews with the group.

Peter Jones' writing appeared to please Brian Epstein and Bill Harry personally recalls the Beatles' manager's pleasure with the book. For the researcher, the text is now a very effective time slice into the Beatles prior to their first visit to America in February 1964. If one re-translates the obvious Queen's English into which Jones transcribed his interviews, there are some interesting anecdotes. Thirty-two monochrome photographs together with a series of illustrations by artist Bob Gibson - who, like Jones, also contributed to the Beatles Monthly magazine - adorn the text. Scarce, these days, but pick it up if you can find it.
