ppint. 8th Dec 2017		this first edition book of "the unteleported man" is a reprint of philip k. dick's 12/1964 fantastic stories magazine novella, not the ~60,000 word novel extended version of that which he turned in to ace books' donald a. wollheim, which wollheim rejected - and which was later lost. two different versions of the novel, that rejected by ace books, and one substantially rewritten by philip dick over the intervening years, planned for publication as he alas died, each with shorter or longer missing sections, were discovered (both after his death i think), and were published posthumously variously with the three gaps left as they were in the original full-length novel (usa 7/1983, retaining the title, "the unteleported man"), or filled in by "another hand" - john sladek - in the rewritten novel (uk 1984 as "lies, inc."). dick's own typescript pages for the gaps in the revised edition were discovered, and published in the philip k. dick society newsletter #8, in 1985, and the relevant pages used to replace john sladek's in the 2005 publication of the rewritten novel (usa 2005 as "lies, inc.").
