PhilMH SUBS 25th Jun 2022		A worldwide release on 24th June 2022, read all about it here. What else is hiding in Norman Granz's vault, I wonder? A marvelous performance from Ella, using the same arranger/conductor (Paul Weston) as on the studio album of THE IRVING BERLIN SONGBOOK, and so far, the only known live recording of any of Ella's songbooks. The sound quality is a bit rough in places, particularly on "Russian Lullaby" and "Always"; I first thought that maybe the engineer was recording at too high a level, but the spottiness of the rough spots makes me now think it is tape damage or deterioration. Kudos to Universal Music Australia for getting this into this country on the worldwide release date; fewer kudos for the $5 increase in price over other recent releases, though, but it's just another symptom of the current worldwide difficulties (and the price is still less than the $A30 that was being charged for CDs when they first became available in 1983, so I shouldn't complain, really).
