mike ratledge, hugh hopper (ayers' replacement in the band) & robert wyatt, all friends from the soft machine, support ayers on track 5, and mike ratledge also plays kybds on (6); the group, the ladybirds, sing the refrain, "we know what you mean" on (13), a reference to a soft machine track recorded 4/67 for producer giorgio gomelsky; robert wyatt, drums (save tracks 6 & 9. rod tait); jean & mary vocals in malay (9); arrangements by david bedford, also piano; engineered by peter mew, sean murphy & ian knight; produced by peter jenner "who provided a more than amiable smile throughout."

the 32pp insert booklet provides biographical and recording sessions detail, as well as the lyrics to "the lady rachel (lullaby for children)", as well as a listing of all the musical instruments used on the album - taking the reader-listener up to kevin ayers' starting to plan and work on his second lp, "shooting at the moon".
