| | Hi Phil, the linked USA release is on Universal but the EU issue and this release are farmed out through Island. Must be some Universal in the USA and through Island for the rest of the world type of deal and because Island is the boutique label in that context and site policy is to list the boutique label before the major I feel it would be Island first in this instance. This would be in line with Dr Doom's EU listing from the same band here. Although that one came through a different set of boutique labels but is consistent with this Australian release that I also entered and have requested to be changed to match Dr. Doom's method of label entry. So in line with that the primary label here would be Island (boutique) and the secondary Universal (major) as is customary on the site. Personally, I don't mind either way but I do like to see consistency across the site.
One thing is for sure though and that is the majors don't know their arse from the elbows when it comes to labels these days. Facsimile labels and sometimes a complete absence of data or logos on labels make it very tricky sometimes. This label does have Universal Records written on it but no logo and the small print on the inlay actually say "licensed exclusively in the UK to Universal-Island Records Ltd.. Then "marketed In Australasia by Universal Music Australia under exclusive license. Made in Australia" Which would indicate "Universal" as you say but why put the "Island" EU information in before it and include the Island logo?
Is it sloppy artwork, copying or of any import? Who knows? One thing is for sure though and that is that this is a uniquely Australian CD.
By the way what would be the chances of having anything with the Apple logo on it changed to Universal under the same pretext. Answer - none at all! |

| | Hi Lee, I would go with Universal (Records), as that is what is on the spines and the discs, as well as the linked US release. Hierarchy seems to be Universal Records at the lowest level, and that falls within Island Records Group, with Universal Music Group at the highest level. |

| | Maybe list as Island / Universal or Universal / Island? I don't know the majors really do make spotting the actual label hard sometimes. Put in a correction to change to Island already but I'm still not sure which way to go on this one. |
