I could never quite work out what to make of Angela Bofill back in the late '70s/early '80s ... much of her material veered too much towards MOR for me (like the title track of this compilation), but occasionally she did something that really slayed me ... the atmospheric "Tropical Love" in particular ... and I liked her perky "Holdin' Out For Love".

Her LPs were consistent sellers and 5 of them had reasonable runs on the Billboard "Pop" charts, with another 4 also appearing on Billboard's R&B listings. Her singles usually did well on the R&B charts where she had 14 hits but somehow they all missed out on Billboard's "Pop" Hot-100.

Curiously this "Best of" collection doesn't include her most successful single "Too Tough", which was a Top 10 Billboard R&B hit in 1983, and to my ears it concentrates too much on her slower/ballad material but then we do get her jazzy version of "People Make The World Go 'Round" to compensate for that .... and of course it does include "Tropical Love" ....
