New target disc entry made, and GEMSFAN's images moved over there.

(I've made that International).

Well, lucky for you Phil. I've still got a fair few years to go in the Dept. of F#@!wits and Di@#heads before I'm through renaming and reinventing wheels.

We had longboxes in Australia too Magic. All US imports for the local market of course but they were released here as standard stock. I'm with Greg on this one but the more I see here the less I know. International CD production is a very messy business and there are a lot of similar but not not "identical" CDs floating around. No bar code as opposed to a CD with a bar code would be enough to warrant a separate entry as far as I'm concerned. I'm also keen on sec. cat#s as another determinant - bet you never thought I'd say that Greg - because the way we're going we'll end up with incoherent pages of "similar" stuff and no-one will be able to find anything using the actual data in front of them on the CD.

What is known is one CD has two cat#s and no bar code and one has one cat# and a bar code. One is a USA release and the other USA/EU (International by our crazy reckoning). I think that's enough to separate the releases. Lumping all of these differences together on the same listing just doesn't make sense to me.

"I know but I don't know" was Rumsfeld ever in Blondie? Regardless, "now I know, I don't know" seems to be our default position with these issues. At least we can all agree that we don't know what the f#@k to do or how to go about it. Government jobs here we come!

 So do I greg :)

...and I've got to sort through it all.

Without clear logic from above, some of us are playing football, some of us are playing cricket, and some of us are playing rugby, but all trying to do so on the same field at once.

It's getting like Rumsfeld with CDs:

"There's thing we know, things we know we know, things we don't know, things we know we don't know, things we don't know that we know, things we don't know we don't know...."

And nobody knows enough.

(Jeez, I've just seen GEMS's disc came in a longbox too making it uniquely US, with a West German disc in (>thump< - head hits desk -)

But here there is not a different barcode... one has one, t'other did'ne.

...It's additional information, not changed, or different info in that respect.

And if it wasn't for the European catalogue number addition, I'd say keep it on this page, consistent with variations found elsewhere on site.

(Otherwise someone's going to have to enter a gazillion new Beatles albums! :)

:) I can see where you're coming from MM,but CD'S can be a little more tricky, the rules would have to be very strict when it comes to adding further releases with the same barcode.Quite often, the last number of the barcode or an additional 0 on CD's indicates the type of packaging used, for example,an 8 for a regular jewel case, and a 9 for a Digipak (random numbers chosen),we then could end up having pages with multiple barcodes albeit with minor differences, and multiple packaging variations,confusing/negating the "Special Edition" senario."Substantial differences" needs to be defined, for me,it's either exactly the same,or not,"similar" is too random for CD's.And the answer to the Pink Floyd question,is yes, personally i would have grouped together all non-barcoded releases, and all barcoded (exact match) releases, but that's probably just me;)

So in vinyl world, we should remove those copies of Dark Side Of The Moon That have a Barcode from those that don't, and the black labels from all Pink Floyd entries?

I thought we generally liked the idea of having variations, and progressions on the same page, except where there is a substantial difference, which distinguishes it from another (a different product).

But yes, some surer guidance from admin would be helpful, not least for mods.

Sorry MM,but for me,even if it had the same Cat.No.,and one had a barcode and the other didn't,they still should be entered separately IMHO,the absence of a barcode normally either indicating an earlier release/first release (then followed by a barcoded release, typically separated by 3-5 years or so),or a club issue,so,i've always entered releases that differ by either having or not having a barcode separate, and will continue to do so,until we get some sensible set rules for CD Album World ;)

Another one I'm not entirely sure of...

... I take your point about the barcode, but I only really feel confident if the barcode is different, not just absent.

The reason being that this is simply additional information applied to an existing issue (all else being the same).

But I think the stronger point you make greg is for the additional cat number, which may mean it was intended for a more specific market. The target disc would seem to be catering for (whispers) International markets, but the later one a dedicated US edition, likely continental counterpart to the European linked release below (?)

So it's on this point that I'd move it, if GEMS has no objections?

(Or if you'd like to create the entry yourself GEMS, so as to get your just 'n' proper (credit, and those all important points "What do points mean?....." :), and then I'll shift images over once done)

Surely it should have it's own entry as it has no barcode?
It's not the same release,it's an earlier one.It also has an additional European Cat.No. 246 040.
