Revisiting the history of this a few years later: Sharon Davis' book confirms September 1981 as the release date of the reissued LP, as well as showing that it was never included in the 2-on-1's, nor in the 9000 "Elite Series" CD's; a couple of MCA catalogues in my possession showed that the first CD issue as MOTD-5216 was sometime between July 1989 and May 1990, and then Schwann CD catalogue of October 1989 showed it listed as a new release (so actual release could have been as much as two months earlier); Don't Forget The Motor City has July 1992 for MOTD-5216, but I think that is likely to be the date of this 37463 edition, as the Motown prefixes changed from MOT, MOTC and MOTD in October 1991, with the move to PolyGram distribution, and Motown US continued using the 37463 prefixes until about 1994, when they adopted PolyGram's international 530 xxx-x numbering for Motown issues.
The LP reissue M5-216V1 was in September 1981, according to the Both Sides Now site (my copy of the Sharon Davis book is packed away at the moment, as are my Schwanns). I think the first Motown CD's in 1986 were the 2-on-1's, and I don't think this was part of them, and Motown started splitting those a couple of years later, as well as starting CD issues of the reissues that hadn't made the 2-on-1 series. This particular issue with the catalogue number starting with 37463 is late 1991 at the earliest, as that was when Motown moved from MCA distribution to PolyGram. (Also note that the Motown company name changed from Motown Record Corporation to Motown Record Company, L.P. at the time of the sale to MCA and Boston Ventures in late 1988).
This particular issue, with the catalogue number starting "37463" would be 1991 or later, from when Motown switched its US distribution from MCA to PolyGram. There would probably have been an MCA issue from the late 80's with catalogue number MOTD-5216 and a different barcode.
