This is the "Discogs" listing of the original Factory 1988 release "Joy Division ‎– Substance Label:Factory ‎– Facd250 Format:CD, Compilation Country: UK Released: 1988" and the French, Polish, South African, Australian, European and UK listings all portray the cover with the writing justified. I might add That CD covers are pressed the same way as the UK edition with the spine on the horizontal axis rather than the vertical.
So if in preference to the weight of global consensus and corroboration on how the cover should look we go for "that's how it came in the packet" line of of thinking I think we could be making a mistake. I could be "dead wrong" as usual, though.

Well, however it's meant to be may be a mystery but the green ribbon icon may also be a clue on the CD as to which direction is up. I know it was presented by the manufacturer this way but they could have made a mistake - it's been known to happen before.

Hi Lee, I uploaded it that way in the first place as that was the way it way presented to the public by the manufacturer. The only other images that I uploaded are the Rear Insert and CD and they are the correct way! I don't mind how it is presented, just found it interesting that it was changed back by a Mod.

Yes, but why? And the back cover is wrong too but if wrong is how you like it, it's fine. I know the cover opens this way but so does the cover on "Closer" but you don't see that one on a 90 degree angle like this. The question here is intention of layout and if you believe that the intention is that the text and "substance" on the back label are written on a 90 degree angle then that's the way it is.

Interesting to see that the cover photo has been changed back to the way I had it in the first place!!
