Could it get more confusing? The label code LC5064 as appears on the rim text for this disc is for the Spectrum label. The policy of the site has (so far) been to list labels from boutique to major. So with that in mind I think Phil is correct to point out that the label here should be Motown. Why it is not actually on the Spectrum label is a mystery to me but that's the way it is for some reason. If we went the path suggested by the judge everything (well almost) would be Sony, Universal or Warners.
Well, Universal owns Motown, the collection is Motown catalogue, there's a Motown logo (or a Motown 50 logo if you want to be really picky) on the package and both of the discs, and the Don't Forget The Motor City website, which is "Compiled from the archives of Motown Records, by kind permission of Universal Music" lists this as a Motown release. Common sense says that this is Motown.
I would disagree, in that the rim-text shows only that Motown owns the rights to the recordings, and that all other credits are to Universal (or, to be preceise, 'Universal-Island').
Label should be Motown, the logo is on the package and the discs (though it must also be said that the copyright credit for Motown Record Company, L.P. on the back and discs is incorrect, as that company name was defunct by November 2000; they should have used "Motown Records, A Division Of UMG Recordings, Inc.", as they did in the booklet, but hey-ho, a wrong company credit by an overseas affiliate is nothing new under the sun).
(Edited to reflect that wrong company name appears on the back and the discs, but correct name in the booklet).
