"My Lady Bug Stay Away From That Beatle" was slated to be a VIP single in March, 1964, but was canceled. One other previously-unreleased track here: "Just Like In the Movies". "There's A Ghost In My House" is a stereo alternate take that previously appeared on the 1973 album "Sounds Superb".
ReviewInteresting little collection of R. Dean Taylor's Motown recordings.
Tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 17 were released in the US as the LP "I Think Therefore I Am" in December 1970 on Rare Earth RS 522, and then issued in The UK as the LP "Indiana Wants Me" in August 1971 on Tamla Motown STML 11185 following the massive UK chart impact of "Indiana Wants Me". The other tracks are split fairly evenly between US singles released in the 1964-1966 period and tracks recorded after the success of "Indiana Wants Me".
This leads to a curiously schizoid compilation with a handful of tracks having that classic mid-60s Motown sound whereas some others are cheesy 1970s efforts.
One of the strangest recordings on here has to be "My Lady Bug Stay Away From That Beatle", co-written by Mr Taylor and Holland-Dozier-Holland. The lyrics are pure novelty, musically it sounds like The Supremes' "When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes"
Bizarrely, the version of "There's A Ghost In My House" on here is a very different mix from what appeared on the original 1967 US single on VIP 25042 and the 1974 UK #3 hit on Tamla Motown 896. At the time when I bought this I found this infuriating, but since the "proper" version has appeared on subsequent collections I now see it as some interesting curio.
