And just a note on this brain meltingly confusing issue...
...Remember that we are trying to add items according to country / territory of release on this site, not where it was made, or the political framework in which these markets operated in, necessarily...
(Although these factors can help narrow the likelihood of place of issue)
...For there are exceptions.
There are items on site, which begin with an exclusive issue in one country only (such as UK), but then have a European issue as well, and sometimes both being issued in parallel, so both the European issue and UK only issue being available in UK at the same time!
And then there's Italy, for so long issuing it's own er... issues separate from general European issues of the same item - and to be considered separately - although Italy has always been a member of the EU.
So it's not cut and dried according to any one measure.
We use individual countries for when an item was issued in that country only (regardless of whether it was exported elsewhere), and Europe for any item that was released in at least two or more separate countries European countries, even if not available in other European countries, who may have their own issue.
(And at the risk of pulling the pin on this particular hot potato topic grenade again, if an item was issued in one or more European countries, and at least one other country outside Europe - Australia, for instance, it is, by definition, International release / issue (intended for those markets), and that's how it should be entered here on site.
Confused?
...Good :D
Don't blame us, blame record companies, political economic treaties, and other market shenanigans / inconsistent practices / corner cutting (possible corruption), and a general bollocks job of the all the aforementioned by those involved for creating this tangled web of nonsense.
Just enter as best you can, to the best of your own knowledge, without fear of being corrected, and then, if someone knows better, they can have the item amended by means of correction, perhaps after discussion or debate to determine the facts... that's what the site is designed to do, and allow us all to do...
Right... I was under the impression that the EU was Europe LOL! But I see now that Europe is well you know and EU is a club that likes to meddle (or so I am told).
I am not blond but I just don't into these things a lot... ;-)
Thanks for your reply, Phil as always you teach me a bit more here and there :-)
Sorry to be picky Helen, but the UK is still part of Europe, and a member of the Council of Europe (which now has 46 member states, as Russia was expelled this year); it is only the EU that the UK left.
