Listed this one when everything was supposedly international but that is not really a good fit here. This has identical cat#s to the EU linked issue on the site but a different barcode. So on the strength of the different barcode could we have this one changed to an Australian release.I listed it 3 years ago and no other matching CDs have appeared so I think this would be better listed as an Australian release. You can refer to the comments on the page for further insight but as it stands this was an Australian made CD for the Australian market and that should be enough to make it an Australian entry. I've sent a correction but if anyone has any better ideas I'm open to suggestions?
Alright back to this one, the plot thickens, Discogs lists the Mexican as having this cat# but is wrong it is in fact 589-001-2 (24) on the Mexican release. So we can rule that out as a match.
Next the cat# here should in fact be 589001-2 and not 589 001-2 as I originally entered. Even though this cat# appears on the cover sticker the label and back sticker cat#s are 589001-2 so we should go with that and Discwrongs is not correct as usual.
Furthermore there are two Taiwanese issues left with the same cat# but they have the space (589 001-2) so they can be discounted. There is however, evidence of a Taiwanese issue wrongly listed on Discwrongs with the same cat# 589001-2 but this is clearly marked made and distributed in Taiwan and heavily features Taiwanese language text. So surely the two remaining cat# 589001-2 issues were purpose built for specific different markets.
I move that we change cat# to 589001-2 Nevertheless, now the cat# will match the European (jewel case edition) and an edition from Chile. I still think this would be better listed as Australian, the EU version as Europe and the Chilean issue as Chile. I doubt whether any of these were produced with the intention that they would be sold in any market other than the one they were manufactured and distributed in. International in name according to us but not necessarily reflected in real life.

Island and Mango's Australian distributor in 1985 was Festival, and that album sounds like something where they would have imported a US or UK copy and slapped a sticker on it showing their own catalogue number, most likely in the D 39000, 40000 or 41000 series. Festival did that a lot, especially for the more "marginal" releases, and you might have to create two entries for that, one for Australia and one for US or UK, as I had to do a while back for a Stax or Specialty release.
I've got an absolute corker coming up. No idea where it's from but bought in Australia and a 1985 release. I'll whack it up in a minute Burning Spear Island/Mango thing it will be.
Jasper, it looks like you posted as I was typing, but yeah, it is confusing for newcomers and the unwary, and I don't think that anyone can come up with one rules that fits all as there are so many variables to consider. Lee, just go with your first instinct when entering anything, and we can add to or correct it later if required.
Oops, didn't scroll down far enough to see that, so fair point, but just looking at Discogs' master release, there seem to be enough countries in different parts of the world using this label and number to justify the International tag (though there are also a few with a slightly different number 589 000-2).
Thanks PhilMH - I was going to suggest that is an International release (released in Mexico and most probably elsewhere - same barcode and cat no.) but thought I might upset/confuse Lee early in his venture into the CD category. As for the flag how about a Union Jack with 5 stars or a kangaroo and a giant kiwi - ha ha.
Hi Lee, my admittedly limited experience of some of Universal's pressings is that they did make Australian and New Zealand pressings for some albums, with both pressings saying "marketed in Australasia". What I haven't yet seen is any New Zealand made CDs retailed in Australia, or Aussie CDs in New Zealand, though I imagine that is possible as PolyGram before them regularly distributed NZ-made 45s and LPs in Australia. However, it is very likely that this same album was made and retailed in other countries with the same label, catalogue number, and barcode, so this might as well be made International without having to create another entry. I do, though, see some benefit in having the "Australasia" option available for Aus/NZ artists who don't get released outside of those two countries, I just wonder if there is such a thing as an Australasian flag (don't think I've ever seen one).
