the workaround would be to add the individual albums in an omnibus/boxed set separately, by their individual disc cat#s, and link these to the other editions of the single albums separately.

it would be good to have places to list the cat#s of the individual discs contained within boxed sets (and other omnibus releases) separately from the boxed set cat#, with the space to include the associated title, if any (not all such sets maintain a one disc-to-one album relationship).

but no way is each and ever single album contained within a boxed set or omnibus of two or more different albums identical with the whole boxed set or omnibus!°

° - if it were, then every boxed set in the wea "five original albums" series would contain five boxed sets of the five original albums within it, each one set of which would contain a further set of the five original albums within it, each one set of which... :-))

No, greg was right, and in wanting to link an identical album title from a box containing other titles, he was seeking to link that title to others identical with it...

...unfortunately, it is not technically possible at the moment to make that link without causing the title you link with, link to all other links made within that set:

If you link this one with the issue that is part of the box, although identical, it will link any of the other titles in that box to this title... so you'd end up with every single issue of every single title in that box at the bottom of every one of those issues linked.

So just not feasible at this time, but ultimately what would have to be made possible in order for the links to be complete.

@ppint. It was never my intention to mislead anybody by adding these links, what i should have done perhaps and will do,is amend my comments to read : "This album title also available in the 5CD box set here"(my mistake;) i personally believe that all versions of an album, that use the same working title, and, not forgetting those that have a different title, but the same tracklisting therein,be linked,or those that use the title in part, like this Janis Joplin release "The Pearl Sessions" which feature many studio "takes" which should hopefully be linked to the original "Pearl"in some way (when it gets added).I would have to perhaps disagree about not linking those with just a few tracks off the original album, there are a few releases out there that might just feature 2/3/4 original tracks, but have multiple takes of said tracks from the original studio session,out-takes/re-takes/studio chatter etc, etc,i.e that don't have the full original tracklisting. How can we say these are not related?,i'd link them all, even cases where other/various artists have re-done their own versions of the original artists work, some are "track-for-track"(Mojo magazine releases spring to mind). They surely all have a common "root" being the original release, isn't that what links are all about?.As to whether you want to indicate this by an "official link",or we just add the link in the comments or notes, well.that's obviously up to the Mods, but again, personally,i see no harm in doing so.at least,in the comments or notes.(again, just one man's opinion, just throwing it out there;)

m'm'mlade: "ita est!" - when using the linked (records, generally) feature at the bottom of the page, it specifically states at the start of the process that it is for linking identical (records).

- yr hmbl srppnt.'s happy enough for this to include a version of an album whose title differs, though the track-listing contained thereon does not; for it to include a version of an album where one or two tracks were swapped out from the original for alternate titles or takes - so long as this is specified in the "notes" section; where one or two tracks were dropped from the original - again, so long as this is specified in the "notes" section: but surely not where the album contains (say) less than 75% of the original album, or the original album is less than 75% of the new version purported to be identical - and srppnt.ly° not where it comprises a mere minor fraction of an omnibus including several other albums!

- links in the text of comments, reviews & notes e.g. to the omnibus from and back to the included albums listings on 45worlds; yes, indubitabubbly; but not false and misleading assignments of an identity that does not exist!

° - sorry; someone told yr hmbl srppnt. i really must stop ending similar sentences with "shirley". . .

I am going to remove those links from the box, and the CDs linked to, as I think this has proven the misgivings about having done so.

It's misleading to link in that particular way, as it gives the impression that those particular issues are from hat particular box set.

You are right greg, in thinking it desirable to link all instances of a particular album title together, but this kind of link is clearly a different creature to the "linked releases" link a the bottom of the page.

This is obviously one of those conundrum issues which is a shortcoming of the linking method of the system itself, as there are other instances (which I think have been raised before) of box sets and doubles (2 for 1s) - joint /split releases of previously individual albums which cannot be linked to their corresponding halves / album elements for this reason - you end up linking the whole lot, each title, and every box / split and other component thereof.

So these are ones that cannot be linked.

...And there are plenty of these in the database!

OC will have some head scratching to do sometime, but in the meantime, we'll just have to continue with some unlinked issues.

But are we the only two? I agree with your assessment particularly in regard to bonus tracks and alternate mixes or Stereo and Mono versions getting tacked on. Cheers again!

@Lee Wrecker.Well funny enough this is what i was just PM'ing MM about.I personally think that all albums using the same title should be linked together, and think it is slightly short-sighted of us to just try and link albums that match exactly (i.e,that have the same tracklisting),as you are well aware, most CD reissues have additional bonus tracks/bonus Discs/re-takes/alternate versions etc,to tempt us into buying the album (again, perhaps;),and it would perhaps commonly only be the first couple of releases on CD that would be an exact tracklisting match, followed by a remaster, followed by releases with additional "goodies"and therefore i think all these should be linked,or am i the only one?:)

Magic and gregs78s this particular CD has a cat# 7567-80318-2 the issue on the 5 CD box set has a cat# 8122 79827 4 and has a different generic Rhino / Atco label. Even this Rhino produced Monkees 5 CD Box Set and this Box Set by Nina Simone on RCA / Legacy that I entered ages ago all have cat#s beginning with an 8. All of the 5 CD Box Sets have different cat#s to previous releases as far as I can see and come in cardboard sleeves and have some sort of generic label.

This CD comes in jewel case and has an Atco label and is listed as such and no mention of Rhino appears on the packaging. So Magic this CD is not the same (identical) issue that comes in the box set but gregs78s is right to hyperlink them as they are the same album just different issues, on different labels with different cat#s. The same but different - link away my friends.
