This is without doubt Tori Amos' finest hour.

As happens with most artists, a great deal of what she does will only appeal to established fans of her music, but this is one of those that I think most will be able to get into...

...It is daring experimental, and epic, but remains very musical nevertheless (some artists seem to forget to actually be musical when they get experimental it seems to me!).

And it sounds incredible, with whatever recording technique she used making this an abum that will blow you out of your shoes if you crank up the volume a bit... a very powerful sound.

Among the highlights are the otherworldly sounding two opening tracks, the pure psychedelic sonic assault of Raspberry Swirl and Hotel, the huge Black Dove (video here)... there are a couple of more "conventional" sounding straight up acoustic-y songs, and of course, some Tori Amos nuttiness (Iieeee)... But the absolute corker here is Northen Lad, which, as well as being a simply great song, has got to be her greatest vocal performance ever... and I even would say it is perhaps one of the greatest female vocal performances I've heard... it is absolutely devastating, and makes every hair on your body stand up (no mean feat when you're as hairy as me! :).

There were a couple of original vinyl issues for both U.S. and Europe from the time, but these are exceedingly scarce, and therefore very valuable / expensive! - (I prefer to use the former term for something when I would consider selling it, but the latter when it is something I want! :), and there have been, to my knowledge, no subsequent reissues on vinyl yet... I just hope it gets the treatment soon (maybe next year an anniversary issue?), as I most definitely want one... and it is one of the great albums of the nineties.

 More scans added.The quality of the artwork on this release is fairly poor,there's lines an "Moire"all over the gaff;)(unless it was intended of course;)
