Got at my copy now, and it's an Australian pressing, probably pressed in 1996 (the shop's price sticker with a date in May 1996 is still on the case), but bought in January 1997. Back cover has barcode 0 7599-25877-2 3 and catalogue number 9258772; spine shows catalogue number as 9 25877-2; disc shows it as 925877 2, pressed by Digital Audio Technologies Australia; It's odd for the pressing not to have the longer form of the catalogue number, so my theory is that the initial Australian release was either a US pressing shown as 9 25877-2, or a European one with 925 877-2, and they probably had enough stocks to last until 1996.
Thanks Vinyl Junkie but that information still leaves us in muddy waters regarding this one. So, it's most likely a locally (Australian) released West German made copy and not an import but we have no proof. I can live with that.
The couple of CD titles I own released through WEA in July 1989 are manufactured in Germany: (Jenny Morris - Shiver and Transvision Vamp - Velveteen). At that stage WEA were using the shortened barcode digits as the local cat #. It wasn't until the 1990's that they adopted the longer international number to match the change to Warner Music.
Hi Lee, depending on when you bought it, WEA/Warner Music in Oz could well still have been importing the bulk of their stock from Europe. I think they moved to Australian pressings sometime in the early 90's, but I'm not sure exactly when. I suspect that mine is an Australian pressing as I didn't get into k.d until later in the decade.
I can't work out why my copy is an import now Phil? This one is probably my favourite k.d. lang release and the Reclines were very versatile as well as a kick arse country band.
This album is listed as a new release in Platterlog for the week of 3rd July 1989; the catalogue number is shown as 9258772, but Platterlog tended to show numbers without spaces or dashes. My copy is in storage at the moment, and I can't remember what pressing it is, or what form the catalogue number took. My recollection is that WEA's shorter numbers were the earlier pressings, and they changed to the longer number format a year or so later.
Added a full set of booklet scans for shuffling into place. Thanks to hiwatt for doing the initial entry. I think this European release may have also been an Australian release or maybe I've just got an imported copy TheVinylJunkie or Pomegranate would probably know for sure. An Australian manufactured version of this CD was released in Australasia according to Discogs with the same barcode and shortened cat# of 9 25877-2. However, I'm wondering if this version was available in Australia before a local copy produced. If that is the case then this one should be made International.
