cussincarryinon02 15th Aug 2014		From this volume, i.e. the early Sixties, onwards, the title of the series "Atlantic R&B" seems misleading up to a point, for this and the following volumes contain many Stax/Volt and Dial recordings. Yes, Atlantic was affiliated with Stax/Volt and Dial in several ways, but putting those tracks together under the title "Atlantic R&B" shows some chuzpa. Legally it is correct in so far Atlantic later acquired the Dial and pre-1968 Stax/Volt copyrights, but historically it still doesn't sound right. In the poorly detailed foldout inserts no mention is made whether a recording was first released on the Atlantic label or not; instead, each and every track is credited with "© xxxx Atlantic Recording Corp.". - What is more, several songs contained in this and the following volumes are actually the LP versions which frequently differ from those issued on 45s. Again, this is not discernible from the info provided in the respective tracklists.
