 Unhappy with the direction of the group, original drummer Kim Berly left prior to this album, to form "The Cry," recording two albums with them under the name of Kimball Fox. Quality Records terminated The Stampeders' long-standing distribution deal after dismal sales of "Platinum" and the lack of singles. All remaining personnel from "Platinum" were then jettisoned and three new members were hired by Ronnie King: his brother Roy Van Sprang, plus Bob Allwood and Gary Storin.

They wound up on a present-day incarnation of the Apex label in 1979 for "Ballsy." Producer Mel Shaw quit after its release, and by 1980 the group had disbanded.

This was the last Stampeders album until the classic trio of Dodson, Berly and King reunited and released one further album of new material in 1998, "Sure Beats Working." As of 2017, they are still performng, and King quips that "we've been together longer this time than we were when we started out."
