Revisiting this one because of the discussion on this Santana disc. This shows the code 01-085977-10 on the back insert and booklet, the 01 prefix suggesting an International release according to the list at Discogs, so time to change the country here to International, I think.
I've now added images from my copy: the front cover with the yellow border (which is printed a bit "wonky" too, and I've just noticed that I lopped the top edge off!), the back cover with the CB801 code, and the disc made in Japan. This copy was already in Discogs as a Europe release, though without the disc image and the date. I have now updated it to remove the country and add the disc image and date, and release note about Australian release.
Hi Greg, it occurred to me this morning that 1994 was way too late for anything to be released on the CBS label, because at the beginning of 1991 the CBS Records companies all became Sony Music Entertainment and the CBS label became Columbia almost worldwide (the Columbia name was owned by different companies in Spain and Japan), so digging through my trusty Platterlogs, I found that the Australian release date for this catalogue number was 9th July 1990! (That's probably around when I bought it). I imagine that UK/Europe release would have been shortly before, but I don't have any Music Master catalogues from then - the 1992 catalogue shows that in July 1992, this had been replaced by a double-pack of this album and DREAM OF A LIFETIME. Anyway, I think there's enough to change this to 1990.
@PhilMH.Hi,that sounds like an interesting one you have there,it's curious that Discogs only has an '86 US (diff Cat.No.)issue and an '87 Japanese (diff Cat.No.)issue between the original album release ('82),and this '94 reissue,so perhaps yours is an early one?.With regard to Distribution Codes, they are now thought to be retail price codes instead (at least on Discogs;)here, and are used not to tell the retailer at which price to sell the CD at,but rather what price to pay a particular distributor.(at least, that's what i made of the discussion;)
Addenda. Perhaps you could do a bit of your renowned "sluething" to see if there's any more ?
My copy, bought in Australia, is almost identical - same catalogue number and barcode, but French distribution code is CB801 instead of CB701 (and comparing the two, it looks like CB801 was the original), and my disc was pressed by CBS/Sony in Japan. Year is probably right, I don't remember when I bought it.
The front cover on this one has in fact,a very thin yellow border, which was skew-whiff on my copy so i had to crop it,i'm sure someone will have a straight one out there,as usual, please feel free to replace any/all images.
