This compilation, and the follow ups Volume 2, Volume 3 and Volume 4 concentrate on non Philadelphia-International "Soul" material from the mid 1970's when "The Philly Sound" was in it's heyday.

So we have a mixture of home-grown talent from the likes of Brenda and The Tabulations, Barbara Mason, The Futures etc. plus Philadelphia recorded songs from outsiders such as The Four Tops, Ben E. King and Jermaine Jackson who were hoping to revive their careers with a touch of Philly Magic.

The collections were aimed very much at '70s Soul Collectors and very few of the tracks made much impact in The UK at the time of their original release, in fact some of them were never released in the UK until the release of these CDs ... such as this catchy track from 1973 by The Invitations
