| | kab2112 the "12 Digit Barcodes are:- "Unique Product Identifiers" " argument has been put by PhilMH and I many times and we have not been successful on any occasion that I can remember. There is another set of specifics for CD entry put together by Dr Doom which goes along the lines that CD's must be "identical" to be EU or international and this seems to be the benchmark that -rightly or wrongly- a lot of site users and MODS adhere to. Look at this USA copy of Abbey Road that has the same cat#, label and barcode as this international copy that I was unable to convince anyone were the same thing. It might be worth reading the whole page of comments to see what I mean. Seems even long lost longbox cat#s constitutes a difference in some cases. In my experience in CD Albums it seems pedantry has become the norm and hair-splitting is the main game in town. Frankly, I'm not fussed by either but in the absence of any meaningful guidelines and site users opting for a version of two polar opposite approaches we can only sit and watch as the site becomes messier and messier as Leonard has pointed out.
In the end though you are right and so am I but that doesn't solve anything it just makes it worse. I do wish we had a consistent approach and some workable criteria for this part of the site. Seems to me nearly everyone has their own loose interpretation of something but no-one actually knows what it is because there is a huge gulf between "matching barcode" and whatever constitutes "identical". The fact that the two approaches exist in the same space is a nonsense. Unfortunately, in my experience when I have attempted to use the barcode method it has always failed and been howled down by those that adhere to the identical approach. So good luck. |

| | 12 Digit Barcodes are:- "Unique Product Identifiers" and as far as I'm aware we use that system for our database here. |

| | Leonard you're right and kab2112's EU release does not belong on this page and should be listed as a separate EU entry. Forget the secondary UK cat# and focus on the primary cat# for a start and you'll see that the US cat# is CDP 7243 8 30334 2 3 as listed here but the inlay and CD uploaded by kab2112 have the cat# 7243 8 30334 2 3 (no CDP). So the primary cat#s are different but the barcodes are the same and technically that's enough to make it international according to guidelines but is it practicable. I think the different primary cat#s is enough to go on to separate these releases.
Incidentally, the Australian issue of this CD copies the USA issue artwork down to the CDP 7243 8 30334 2 3 cat# on the spine but has a different cat# 8303342 on the actual disc. Messier and messier you say leonard, I agree. Correction sent. |

| | This is certainly a different release! USA doesn't have additional UK cat#.There already is a 1995 UK relesae catted (which should be European) and were making it more difficult and worse with having images from two different relesaes on one page. Things are getting messier and messier.... |
