Quad5point1 10th Jan 2017		I'm with JPGR&B to promote the longbox images to the main images, make the primary cat# the CCT# but on the evidence I unearthed from the Billboard magazine, the label should be Capitol/Parlophone



Jasper 8th Jan 2017		On a similar note I have a 3CD box set of Mental As Anything - the box has it's own bar code, cat # and title (Mental As Anything 123) it was released with the Sony logo - 1 x CD was on the CBS label, another on CBS "Select" and the other on Epic. These were all available individually. I was thinking of entering it as a box set as per details on the box itself and a just a list of the CD titles then in notes listing the individual cat # of the CDs. Then add the Cds as individual entries and in the notes mention that the Cd was also available in Australia as a box set under the cat# , bar code and title on the box.



Lee Wrecker 7th Jan 2017		I can see these longboxes are going to be trouble if they all carry different cat#s. I've bought a few in my day but don't have any at hand as evidence for doing a CD entry. They were intended to be disposable packaging and not an intergral part of the product. Mine all went in the bin because they were to difficult to store. So if they contain vital evidence, as is the case here, they may be very hard to find and this could be a problem cataloging US CDs and this has been dicussed on Discogs. I think we need to have some sort of understanding on how we deal with them on this site. Discogs, currently treats longbox and non longbox entries as separate items should we? Anyway, my take on this particular CD is that it's an international CD in a USA longbox and a very difficult customer to boot.



Quad5point1 7th Jan 2017		Anybody who has the disc without the box can still "own it" because of the subsidiary cat#, they will then know that they just don't have the complete item. As I said previous, If i had've had the long box at hand at the time then CCT would've been made the primary cat#. My entry was made on the basis of the information I had at that point in time which was the CD without the long box. This is one of the reasons why mods are always saying not to enter an item unless you have it physically in front of you. I note also from the billboard article that Let It Be was also issued with a long box so that too will have a CCT number attached



Lee Wrecker 7th Jan 2017		So CCT# is the primary # then cptbeefheart, but now I suppose the question is how are site users without a 30 year old longbox going to know that this CCT cat# is their CD? You yourself made this mistake on your original entry and used the CDP cat# plus the CDP cat # is used 5 times on the CD and packaging so this mistake will most likely be made again and again.



Quad5point1 7th Jan 2017		Just did a search of the web and came up with this. There's the disc in Billboard charts at number 11 with the CCT cat#. If you scroll further down you come across the top compact disc chart and all the Beatles albums are accredited to Capitol



Lee Wrecker 7th Jan 2017		JPGR&B, okay then what do we do when the same CD appears without the longbox (ie. second hand copies)? Will that version be international? The net is full of listings of this USA CD with the CDP 7 46446 2 cat# and it won't be long before another turns up here because listings of it as cat# CCT 7 46446 2 are very hard to find. I would go the other way around as the product in the box is the same thing and has two matching cat#s. I am trying to use the site guidelines and the evidence to explain my position (see previous comment) but I'm interested in what specific criteria or evidence is being used to inform the way you "think" about this one JPGR&B. The reason I'm asking is that there seems to be plenty of what people feel and think should be done on this entry but very little on why it should be done according to the site guidelines or what parameters are actually being used to make these decisions. Now, I'm not trying to be difficult I am trying to understand because obviously in some cases some criteria are more important than others but at the moment I can't understand why that is so. Can you help me out? Confused.



JPGR&B SUBS 7th Jan 2017		I think we should promote the long boxes to the top two images and change the cat# to correspond, with the others as secondary numbers. The label to be changed to Parlophone.



Lee Wrecker 7th Jan 2017		The Australian CD has the cat# CDP 7464462 on the disc with no spaces but I see it as the same thing. Do you think I should make that a separate entry too - it was also specific to the Australian market. If we want to look for differences I could make nearly everything made in Australia an Australian release due the way our EMI cat numbering system works. Here the disc and inlay are identical matches and if that's not good enough nothing will be in some peoples' minds. The cat# CCT 7 46446 2 is not listed on Discwrongs at all and a google search reveals only two instances of its use here and a Beatles blog. To my mind that is not enough evidence to elevate that cat# to the primary position when there are two cat#s matching the international release plainly evident this entry and a google search of CDP 7 46446 2 USA reveals a multitude of results for this CD. Just because a disc was manufactured for a particular market is not a valid argument in this or any case to make that market the country of origin according to the guidelines of the site. Actually the only criteria for differentiating CD listings between international and domestic in the guidelines is whether or not the barcodes match contained in the duplicates section . It does not have to be the same identical CD or even have the same cat#. We all know the guidelines need to be improved but as they stand that is it. The real problem is everyone is making up their own rules which vary from matching barcode as the only criteria to having to be the very same "identical" CD to quote Dr Doom who used this word in a forum and some users take it to mean the very same CD, others interpret it as matching cat#, barcode and label but none of this is in the actual guidelines. In extreme cases secondary cat#s, place of manufacture and secondary distribution companies are used to prove a CD is domestic. This is why we have these problems and people seem to get very uptight about it. We sorely need some consistency and some simple logical criteria for people to follow when entering CDs. Surely there's some middle ground to be found somewhere between the two extremes that we seem to be using at present.



Quad5point1 6th Jan 2017		I probably should've waited until the long box was found before entering the CD. If I had've had the long box in my hands at the time I would most certainly have made the cat# CCT 7 46446 2 the primary cat# and all the rest subsidiary numbers. This disc was brought back for me from the States as a request because at the time it was unavailable in the UK. So I don't think the International argument stands up. AFAIC this is a straight USA release and the presence of that cat# on the long box surely would've served the purpose of cataloguing and re-ordering of stock at the retail end as well as tying it to a Capitol release.



Lee Wrecker 5th Jan 2017		Jock_Girl, I would say that the four similarities, release date, label, cat#, and barcode are surely enough to make this International. I can't recall the manufacturer ever being considered as a factor in whether releases are International or not. If this were the case everything manufactured by Shock (ie. the entire White Stripes catalogue), Cortex or any the other CD manufacturers in Australia would be Australian. I know that the Beatles were signed to Capitol in the USA and traditionally have used that label but the presence of one different Capitol specific cat# on the longbox does not in my opinion outweigh the other evidence on the CD. Could that cat# be a cat# for the longbox alone? Should the longbox have it's own entry? I just think the longbox evidence is negligible in light of what I see as overwhelming identical evidence in the four other areas mentioned above.



Jock_Girl 5th Jan 2017		Lee --- while I agree that the label should be Parlophone, I do not thing that this should be with the international releases because they specifically are manufactured by Capitol, as opposed to the international ones which are all EMI in origin. Granted, yes that Capitol is/ was a part of EMI, but this is somewhat more specific. Plus -- that box catalog number is Capitol's own unique number.



Lee Wrecker 5th Jan 2017		Is there any reason this USA copy is NOT included in with the International releases that were released on the same day, with the same cat# and same barcode. Also I think the label should be just Parlophone - the fact that it was manufactured by Capitol doesn't mean that the CD is on the Capitol label, which it isn't. If we were to follow the reasoning here we would have a lot of BMG/Sony/WEA (et al) secondary labels. Anyway, this and the linked release are the same and the discussion on that page confirms that.

Quad5point1 17th May 2015		I've just found the Long Box for this album. Funny thing is there's a cat no on the side of the box that's totally different to the disc. The number is CCT 7 46446 2. Anybody throw any light on that one ???
