Apollo59 13th May 2017		These first CD releases on Charisma/Virgin didn't sound too good at all, a lot of definition lost and very flat and murky, particularly with all the 1970's era albums. The later SACD remasters are superb and stuff that had been buried in the mix on the original albums comes up front. Probably also a lot to do with the fact that the original albums often ran to over 50 minutes, which would cause severe compromises. I kept this remaster because the mix is excellent. Sold off all the others when I bought the SACD box sets.

Magic Marmalade 26th Aug 2016		On the whole I want the sound of the original vinyl-era recordings when buying CDs, so tend to go for the first issues/presses, which are the the early to late eighties ones... ...but it has to be said that 1994 was something of a golden year for remastering for CD: The Genesis, Led Zep, Pink Floyd CDs I've got from this year sound great. Haven't overdone it, and kept close to the original, but filled the digital space with the music. (My "Flat Transfer" of The Kinks best of (Castle Communications) is one in particular where the original recording sounds a little exposed by the digital technology of the CD (Sounds a bit lost in there)... as they used to state on some CDs: They could expose the shortcomings of the original recordings).
