The first album by Janis Eddy Fink to chart in the USA was in 1967.
Her career peak was at age 24 when the album BETWEEN THE LINES reached #1 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart in the USA on 20 September 1975 for 1 week. Only two other female solo artists reached the top position in 1975 namely Linda Ronstadt and Olivia Newton-John.
In 1979 and 1980 only 2 female solo artists reached the top position, being the same artists in both of those years: Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer. No wonder the two recorded a duet on NO MORE TEARS.
Regrettably the album NIGHT RAINS failed to dent the Billboard Top 200 pop albums chart and was not included on the items bubbling under either.
Janis Ian's final charted album on Billboard was in 1981 and it failed to reach the Top 150. How the mighty were fallen.
Back in the day NIGHT RAINS did manage the following global chart peaks in 1980:
#2 - Holland
#8 - Zimbabwe
#11 - Australia.
If South Africa had had an official album chart list available at the time it would probably have reached the Top 10 there too.
FLY TOO HIGH was the main single from NIGHT RAINS. In the USA although it spent 4 months on the Record World chart it only peaked at #134! It failed to register on the Billboard or Cashbox pop charts. It was however a #1 in South Africa and Zimbabwe and reached the Top 5 in New Zealand and Holland and #7 in Australia.
