digital remastering phil de lancie, fantasy studios berkeley 1990
Well, this one turned out to be easy! Fantasy's earliest websites didn't show the date, but an archived Concord page gives the US release date as 7 December 1990. I can add my US copy here now!
Just checked my issues of Schwann InMusic (their short-lived monthly magazine with new release listings), and the US issue is listed in their January 15 - February 15, 1991 issue as "December '90 release". It might be possible to find the exact date if (and it's a big if) the release page on Fantasy's old website was ever picked up by the Internet Archive. Unfortunately Fantasy's successor Concord updated their site last year and removed useful information like catalogue numbers and release dates!
r'foster: ta for images (yr hmbl srppint. lacks both scanner and home broadband), never mind slightly wrinkly :-)
- and regards also to intrepd investigators & elucidators of the remastering & release dates.
(n.b. 'tis/'twas quite common for january releases to be copyrighted (etc.) late on in the year preceding - which could explain at least one minor point.)
1988 was when it was first released on LP in the USA. 1990 is when it was released on CD in the USA, and this 1997 UK release just used Fantasy's 1990 mastering and packaging.
Good stuff,we'll get there in the end;).This release has a slightly unusual staggered order, firstly 1988,remastered in 1990 but not released till 1997,and then reissued again in 2002,go figure;)
Interesting gregs78 .... I did notice that Amazon have for sale a release of this that they state came out in 1997, but it wasn't clear to me whether it was this particular issue. 1997 would fit in with other Stax releases already on 45Worlds so maybe that is correct.
I've added images of this (albeit a bit "water-damaged" - don't ask me how, I think I bought this second-hand/used).
The catalogue number of this suggests a release around 1994/5, Discogs has 1988 (obviously wrong for, as the notes on this page state, there is mention in the blurb about it having been remastered in 1990).
Anyone any ideas?
