Hi to all. Interesting one in deed and one of my favorite albums of all time, in fact "Hold On" is my favorite song of all time - a big call to make I know! I originally bought this new in early 1987, and still have that CD which has a small crack around the centre ring. I bought the Mushroom re-issue years ago, sold it on ebay a couple of years ago and bought a mint original release 1986 version, so now have two with the RMCD53216 catalogue number. What I can see has happened is that when it was re-issued in 1991, Festival obviously still had plenty of the CD booklets for these, as they sold no-where near what they had hoped (unlike OOMOOS before it). So they would have had plenty of these left over, so when the re-issue appeared 5 years later, they just slapped the new Festival sticker over on the back over the RMCD number, also now including a bar code, which of course was absent on the 1986 release. Hence the reason that the spine and booklet still have the RMCD cat number on them, however the CD itself had the "new" Festival cat number. Long story I know, but that's what has happened, and from memory a few others in the re-issued Mushroom series are in the same situation.
Another interesting thing with this CD is the back paper insert has a slight crease in all issues of the CD, if you have the CD, check yours out and see if you can tell?!
Added release month from Platterlog; curiously, this doesn't appear in any of the weekly new release sheets for January or February, but does appear in the main catalogue received on 4 February, so with the 1991 copyright date this has to be a January release.
Mushroom changed distributors a couple of times - I think they were with CBS (as was) in the late 80's - but whenever they were with Festival they used that company's consolidated numbering systems; the 53216 one was for the original full-price release, but the 19000 series was mid-price reissues, so RMCD53216 should really be removed from this. Festival's practice of showing original catalogue numbers in brackets - usually the catalogue number of the originating label for overseas recordings - leads to a lot of confusion, especially at Discogs where it frequently gets entered as if it is a current, or Australian, catalogue number.
Thanks Phil, I've sent a correction the Festival Cat# and sticker must have thrown me off track. A bit of an odd one with a Mushroom and Festival Cat #. This is the Festival re-issue of the 1986 Mushroom release which has the RMCD53216 cat# that also appears on the spine and booklet of this issue. I think they should be kept as separate releases when the original turns up.
