RogerFoster 27th May 2018		Review This is a curious release, as it is essentially a pared down version of two compilation CDs that had been previously released by Kent/Ace .. (1998's Eddie Singleton Presents - Shrine - The Rarest Soul Label and Shrine - The Rarest Soul Label Volume 2 from 2002). What the folks at Goldmine have done here is cherry-pick 29 (from 48) of the most "Northern"/"Dancefloor Friendly" tracks on the two Kent/Ace CDs and add one more, the beat-ballad "Wait 'Til I Get There" by Tippi & The Wisemen as an ender to finish off the set. This compilation also introduces the 29 tracks in exactly the same order as they were introduced on the Kent/Ace CDs .. tracks 1-12 are on the 1998 CD and tracks 13-29 are on the 2002 CD .. one can only imagine what the folks at Kent/Ace thought about that!! Musically this should appeal to anyone remotely interested in mid '60s Soul and the whole "Northern Soul" phenomenon; the SHRINE label was founded by three people formerly associated with Motown .. Eddie Singleton, Raynoma Gordy (the estranged wife of Motown boss Berry Gordy) and Stanley Ossman (Raynoma's half brother) .. so musical similarities with what was being released on the Detroit label abound, however there is also a huge influence apparent from Chicago vocal groups like The Impressions and The Radiants, so this CD ends up sounding remarkably similar to some Chess "Northern Soul" CD collections. This is the one track that wasn't on either of the Kent/Ace compilations ... 3 people found this review helpful.   ✔︎ Helpful Review?
