ReviewThis curious release from Goldmine Soul Supply combines a Bob & Earl LP issued in the U.S. on Crestview CRS 3055 in 1969 (The Discogs entry for which can be seen here) with a butchered version of The Olympics LP "Something Old, Something New" that was issued on Mirwood MW 7003 in 1966, uses the artwork of both, and then throws in The Olympics "The Same Old Thing" for good measure.
The whole point of this exercise was to compile something to have maximum appeal to "Northern Soul" and "Mid 6Ts Soul" fans (the five tracks omitted from the 1966 Olympics LP were ones from earlier in their career and which had more of a novelty/50s feel).
So what we have here is an enjoyable collection which consists of fiercely uptempo Soul Dancers, some mid-tempo items and the occasional ballad, in other words something typical of 1966. Curiously the version of "My Little Girl" at Track #5 is the instrumental version of the song, not so curiously the version of "Harlem Shuffle" at Track #10 is the uptempo remake recorded for Mirwood rather than the 1964 hit version.
