There's a lot of these Russian CDs about.

...Often quite high quality pressings, if decidedly unofficial looking.

...But then, how often do you see a bona fide official Russian CD?

....I wonder if there might have been a "back door" / "Under the table" arrangement between major labels and entities within Russia, that allowed them to get there music out there in a way that bypassed whatever political impediments there may have been at any given time.

Basically, I wonder if the term "bootleg" is suitable here?

Mainly bootlegs seem to be material released in areas where official product is already available, and is biting into the official business of the labels.... but what if there is an area where no "official" product is, or can be available?

(Maybe part of the CIA scheme to undermine communism in the former USSR? :D - after all, that's a big piece of the reason West Germany was chosen to have CD pressing plants and other industry installed there at the time.... boost economies, win political battles through this means... try as we might, we can't separate music and politics when discussing these items sometimes.)

The wording at the bottom of the rear of the back cover reads: "All rights reserved. Licensing agreement no. 2111/M3 from 12.11.96 between RCA and Spurk Ltd,".

For a little more on Spurk, see here. I wonder about that 'Licensing agreement' text in the light of this, and think that the Notes should denote this as a bootleg, and perhaps the label changed to 'Спюрк'.

 I've changed this to Russia.

(But can always be changed accordingly)

Looks like there are no opinions yet. Will the country be changed to Russia?

I'm not u p on my languages, but that looks.... Russian?

Fairly sure this is not USA release, and with no barcode or cat number, it looks like one of our "Unofficial" Russian issues.

I invite opinions before I change to... Russia? ..... Bootleg?

I entered this disc as U.S.A. however I believe it was marketed in another country. Can some one please have a look at the back cover image and figure out what country this disc belongs. This disc was made in the U.S.A. but I don't think it was sold there.
