Hmmm, yes. It's odd the sleevenotes say they couldn't trace the copyright holder, surely CBS now equals Sony so they own this material? Isn't that who licensed the collection of Embassy Beatles covers? Pink n Black no longer have a website at that link, but the CDs are relatively easy to find and buy online. I've just received this one. My guess is that if Sony (or whoever) actually cared, they'd have stopped these being sold by now.
i know that embassy records - almost entirely singles, and almost entirely "sound-alike" cover versions - were sold exclusively through woolworthses in the uk (or, at least, in england'n'wales), for a while (later, non-exclusively through woollieses); but were they not actually set up by the levys of oriole records fame - this was, i understood, how cbs uk came to own the embassy label (which they eventually used as their budget lp line label, not least to maintain ownership of the name by keeping it a live label) - ?
(not a mistake by frank at all, at all; a blooper by the cd's liner-notes-and-blurb writer.)
