Michael Warre SUBS
25th Sep 2018
 1) Co-writer Matthew Fink is Dr. Fink, This track was intended to be a Vanity/Apollonia 6 with band member Brenda Bennett on lead vocals recorded in August of 1983 at the Warehouse, but never released, the song was rerecorded in Jan-March 1984 at Sunset Sound and release as a b-side to When Dove's Cry. This recording is the earliest known version of this song.
2) This is the earliest known version of Purple Rain possibly before the entire song had been fully written. It would be recorded live at First Avenue on Aug 3, 1983 in Minneapolis for the album and movie.
3) This becomes the oldest recorded and released cover that Prince ever recorded. Prince would perform this song during the same night at First Avenue (Aug. 3). The song would be resurrected in 2001 as part of the MP3 release, One Nite Alone..., under the title "A Case of U" then reedited and reissued on "A Tribute to Joni Mitchell" under the original song title! Prince would play Joni Mitchell music before and during breaks at his concerts.
4) This is a Civil War era traditional Negro spiritual. This recording contains elements from the following track "Strange Relationship". This was also commonly performed at Prince concerts.
5) This track was recorded shortly after the 1st studio version in March 1983, after a few reworkings it would appear on the "Sign O' The Times" album.
6) This track was also recorded after the studio version that was done on Jan. 14/1982 as a song for "The Time" however, Prince would reclaim the track for release on the "1999" album.
7) This track was meant to be part of the "Purple Rain" album & movie. This song was sung by Jill Jones while Prince handled the music, but would be edited out of the movie and then from the album. Studio version was recorded Oct. 24, 1983 and has never been released.
8) There is no studio version of this song, it may have been intended for use by "The Time".
9) There is no studio version of this track either and is believed that it may be a improvisation.
