david ackles' fourth and last album, trailed variously as "d.t. ackles, 1984", " d.t.ackles * five & dime", and released by merkin columbia (whither ackles had moved with the enthusiastic encouragement of clive davis after the largely critical success of his magnum opus, "american gothic", his third lp for jac holzman's elektra), but who'd been ousted from that company by the time the record was released - and, as an orphan work, found no support at columbia, and was not even released in the uk, where cbs had expected to be given airplay by such ackles fans as john peel for their eventual - and then cancelled - release.
